Piperonyl butoxide (PBO) is an organic compound that is commonly used as a pesticide synergist. It is not a pesticide itself but enhances the effectiveness of certain pesticides, particularly pyrethrins and pyrethroids. Chemically, it is a semisynthetic derivative of safrole, and its structure includes a methylenedioxyphenyl group.
